Oppss...have you wondered how the instant noodle are made?

Recently, myself and other bloggers (about 60 of us) have an opportunity for a day trip to visit Mamee Chef factory and Mamee Jonker House in Melaka. We started the day at meet up at Mamee Double Decker, Subang Jaya. We reached the Mamee Chef factory around 11am.

Before I started on the trip let me share the recipe of success for Mamee Chef. As we know, Chef Ismail well known for his expertise in Malay Cuisine. He has teamed up with Mamee to create original recipe and flavour that represents Malaysia.The paste for Mamee Chef's Thai Tom Yam and Curry Laksa recipe was co-created with Chef Ismail, are made with fresh ingredients of spices and herb.

Mamee Chef has an even better taste because each packet of it comes with a pre-packed condiment for different flavours such as prawns, tofu (bite-size), shiitake mushrooms and vegetables.

Basically La Mien Sifu performance and curry laksa paste cooking show is the manual way of preparing curry laksa noodle (Duh...I couldn't imagine how to do mi tarik by myself). Thus, to imitate the La Mian technique for better springier noodle texture, Mamee Double-Decker made RM80 Million investment on the machinery. This machine and technology, they are able to make noodle goes through the same pulling and folding process like La Mien noodles.

Right after lunch, we departed to Mamee Jonker House (I bet orang Melaka pun tak tahu ada Mamee museum, café and such kat Jonker Street ni kan)

Mamee Jonker House, Melaka opened in Nov 2013 and now among top 10 of Jonker Street attractions.

Inside Mamee Jonker House you'll see Mamee Cafe, Mamee World, Monster Kitchen, Noodle Doodle and Merchandise Store

Unfortunately during our visit, Mamee World (or known as Mamee Museum) temporary closed for some refurbishment. (understand that it will be open in 2-3 months. Perhaps next time I should come to bring my family...)

Monster Kitchen

Monster Kitchen where kids 6 years and above can join the workshop with minimal fee RM10. However the class will be on weekend time with minimum of 6. I understand that kids below 6 years old also can join as long as accompanied by father/mother/guardian (seorang dewasa je ye..bukan seluruh keluarga teman anak yg sorg tu...kang masalah space pulak). The Monster Kitchen workshop sessions available on Saturday and Sunday (11am, 1,30am, 3pm). Prior booking required.

One of the activities we had was Mamee Chef Colour My Cup at Noodle Doodle. I just need to colour the Mamee Chef and then choose 4 condiments, and the next few minute I have my very own Mamee Chef! (It is advisable to eat this very own Mamee Chef within 2 weeks due to hygiene)

Hands-on and fun experiment with Little Scientist

Back to my time, science was introduced during Form One. While during primary school, we were taught with ADM (Alam dan Manusia) which exposure of science, human, plant, animal dan etc (couldn’t remembered exactly but not mistaken ADM also have exposure about ASEAN)

Nowadays, science introduced at primary school. How about kindergarten? Have you ever heard or read Little Scientists Programme for kindergartens?

As early as 3 years old, our little ones will be exposed to hands-on and fun science via Little Scientists Programme. The Little Scientist is a unique programme with 12 years experience has been adopted by 450 kindergartens (eg Brainy Bunch, Dzul Iman) with thousands of children benefiting from it. Little Scientist mission is to inspire every child to love science.

For those that had sent your kids to kindergartens I recommend you to check on your kids’ syllabus. Bukan ape ye..esp nowadays tak macam zaman hantartadika kemas, skrg most likely hantar tadika swasta, bayar dah tentu2 la RM100 dan ke atas sebulan, kan sayang dan rugi kalau bayar mahal2 tapi xde sikit pun didedahkan dengan sains. If your kid kindergarten does not have science exposure, perhaps you can start recommend Little Scientist to the teachers. (Yay, I don't have to worry since kindy Afham mmg ada expose to science. haritu dia bawak balik projek taugeh siap selawat2 kat taugeh tu)

Little Scientist founded by Ms Ho The Eng, a mother of two.  She quit her job as an engineer to start the Little Scientist.

Ms Ho shared her stories. Ms Ho was awarded the Creative Young Entrepreneur Award (Top 10 by Junior Chamber International Malaysia)

Little Scientist provide centralized training for all teachers so they understand the Little Scientists curriculum. This training also focuses on sharing creative ideas, better teaching methods, videos and helping teachers to remove any teaching barriers. Integrated Islamic value also added to their lesson.

Plus point, they do offers teaching aids, posters, flash cards and students kits which will make easier for teachers to teach science.  In a sum, everything prepared!

Little Scientist system

Let me share Parenting Workshop conducted by Little Scientist that I attend with Afham and Alif. We learn science through playing technique, which is hands-on and fun!

Since we managed to arrive before the workshop started, Afham and Alif had a chance to explore the Magnet set

Oh ya when we arrived I saw each table with 2-4 plastic container with water. Yay it means the workshop will conduct water activities (Kids love water, isn’t it?)

We have 4 activities for less than 2 hours programme

# 1 Float and Sink

We were given with the Float and Sink kit. Personally I love the kit because I am  pretty sure that this kit will ease teachers (Even tho myself  did “Simple Science in the Bathroom” – a.k.a teaching Afham and Alif about float and sink (terapung  dan tenggelam), but the items are limited to their toys. Erm bila masa nk cari macam2 barang mcm bulu, batu  tu kan?)

The kids were given to test whether the items will float or sink (stone, pencil, cloth peg, 2 types of spoon, plasticine etc). Argh forgot to snap the full kit picture earlier, since fully occupied with 2 kids perhaps.

# 2 Balance a ship with 5 marbles

The kids learn how to balance the ship (Dan jugak untuk tidak berputus asa! Sbb bukan sekali buat dah berjaya tau)

# 4 Toddler boat

The final activity for the day. Parent help to assemble the boat before the kid start to race their boat (Wohoo Afham dan Alif balik rumah pun still main boat ni kat “kolam mini” rumah)

Overall, the Little Scientist workshop was great. The kids not only learn science indirectly but also new vocabulary, hand-eye coordination, concentration, patience, follow the instructions, help each other and also sharing! 

They even asked me when the next science activities (krik…krik…krik…bagi ibu fikir ye dulu)

Anyone love science?

When it comes to science, I always can relate it to microscope, Bunsen burner, test tube and etc. I have to admit I got C5 for Physics, perhaps all the while I asleep while my teacher busy explained Physics concepts and so on ..Pftt…(at least I know my strength in Maths & Accounts)

I received invitation from Hana of Little Scientist for 1^st Parenting Workshop with Bloggers, I just know that it will be good idea for me to encourage and giving an early exposure to science to  my kids. Haha but before went to this Little Scientist, I am not sure the kind of activities…because all the while we only had “Simple Science in the Bathroom” – a.k.a teaching them  float and sink (terapung  dan tenggelam)

I thought to bring Alif as well, but I afraid that I couldn’t handle two kids at the same time. Tried to asked husband to join as well, but he said he willing to take care Alif. So ended up Alif not joining (perhaps there will be next time).  Both of us the last one to arrive, since there was some misunderstanding the direction between me and husband .

So when we arrived, they already started first activity. Oh ya we receive a box of Little Scientist kit for the activities.

Little Scientist Kit

# 1 Activity – Red, Blue, and Yellow

This is simple but yet fun for the kids (hmm I still wonder why all the while this never come across to my mind to try it..pdhal ada la jugak guna water colour kat rumah)

They learned how to mix

red + yellow = orange,

blue + red = purple and

yellow + blue = green

So they get a chance to use test tube and after that combine two pieces of transparent papers that have the same effect as well

# 2 – Japanese ball

Inside the kit box, there is a flattened paper ball with a small hole. Ms Ho asked us how to make the flattened ball into a round ball..(hmm of course some of us just throw some ideas which none of it correct )

Can a ball inflate when we hit it? It can! When you hit the ball, you are allowing the air from atmosphere to be sucked inside the ball. This is something called the Bernoulli’s principle.

Haha I thinks parent is the most excited one when comes to this activity

# 3 – Air Bag

We are given with one giant Air-bags 8ft long! Again at first we were asked to to blow it 20 times..Pfttt..semput mak

Can we filled in the bag with one blow? The answer is yes, with some little technique we simply can fill in the air inside the air bag. This is the power of air.

 

Can you imagine with one blow can fill up this giant bag?...Lepas tau rasa magiknya

Giant Air-Bag teaches the fundamentals of Bernoulli’s Principal, which explains all about air pressure and the way air moves and acts.

Ms Ho also touched on Islamic Science (cthnya kita tahun Tuhan (Allah) itu ada, tapi tak nampak dengan mata..sama juga seperti udara yg kita tahu ada tapi tak nampak…) see just a simple thing which sometimes we tend to ignore.

In between of the activities, there was some slides presentation about Little Scientist.

Little Scientist founded by Ms Ho with a vision “To inspire Every Child to Love Science”.

Since 2002, the programme has been adopted by hundreds of kindergartens with thousands of children benefiting from it (To date about 450 kindergartens and still counting used their programme eg Brainybunch, Dzul Iman)
